The FuelBuddy Driver App is what drivers use to deliver fuel to customers. Building for drivers requires specific engineering considerations: the screen must remain readable in direct sunlight, tap targets must be forgiving, and the app must handle intermittent network connectivity on the road. I built core delivery workflows end to end across the frontend and data APIs.
What I built
- Offline-tolerant UI: Drivers regularly lose signal in transit, so I implemented local caching for route and order data. The app queues changes locally and synchronizes them once connectivity is restored.
- Location and maps: Implemented live GPS tracking and map routing on the frontend, optimizing location updates and map rendering cycles to prevent excessive battery drain over shifts.
- Field-ready UX: Built operational delivery flows designed for high contrast, large touch targets, and streamlined form entry so drivers can log deliveries quickly and safely.
- Hasura GraphQL APIs: Built the CRUD APIs supporting order data, offline queues, and delivery logging directly on Hasura GraphQL engine.
Why it mattered
Designing specifically for mobile field conditions made the app responsive and dependable on the road, allowing drivers to focus on deliveries without battling UI latency or connection drops.
